About Maureen
“It starts with an idea..I love the process of thinking, designing, working it out and making. It’s absorbing!”
Maureen’s jewellery is renowned for its sophisticated simplicity where detail is considered and restrained. Her simple forms are softened with curves and natural lines, making each piece eminently wearable and a subtle statement of elegance. Her work is tactile and, without the addition of surface detail, light glints from the polished surfaces.
“I fell in love with The Netherlands many years ago and return often. I love their sensibility. It imbues my approach to design. I take simple forms and work them, in the way a poet takes simple everyday language, and hones it to the point where it captures something special.”
She graduated from The National College of Art and Design, Dublin in the late 1980s and set up business in Kilkenny. Following further studies in silversmithing in Copenhagen, and stone setting in Vancouver, she moved her studio to Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin where she is now based. She is a member of the Crafts Council of Ireland and the recipient of many awards and accolades.
